Athletics & Beyond

I am privileged to write a letter of support for the program Athletics & Beyond (A&B), as the organization applies for grant funding and support from your foundation to support its important mission.

Over the past several years, the Denver Scholarship Foundation (DSF) has collaborated with A&B on multiple initiatives in the field of college access and student support programs that emphasize postsecondary enrollment. Specifically, DSF partnered with A&B along with the Denver Public Schools Department of Athletics to host workshops designed to help Denver Public School athletes, parents, counselors, and coaches successfully navigate the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) eligibility process.

As the Executive Director of A&B, Narcy Jackson has a long history in Denver as a student advocate, coach, and educator.  He has a depth of experience working with students, primarily those who might be defined as at-risk, who live in high poverty, single-family homes, or in challenging life circumstances.  Narcy, himself a DPS graduate from the East Denver community, and his organization have a long history of working with and serving urban youth, hooking young people via athletics and challenging them to become influential young men and women who contribute to their schools, neighborhoods, and the Denver community.

A&B is an invaluable resource for students in DPS. The track record of the students and their success stories speaks for itself. A grant from your foundation would allow Athletics & Beyond to expand the number of students who can participate in the program and become leaders in the Denver community in the future.

Narcy is a charismatic leader who the students respect and admire. I have great confidence in his leadership ability and passion to accomplish more with the children and their families.  I hope you will give serious consideration to supporting A&B with financial support.

Thank you for your consideration of the Athletics & Beyond funding proposal. Please feel free to contact me if you need further information or have follow-up questions.

Regards,

Curtis L. Esquibel, Director of College Access Services
